Open Category Drone Rules (A1, A2, A3)

What applies to recreational pilots, hobbyists, and standard drone operators in Belgium?

  • Maximum altitude is 120 meters AGL in uncontrolled airspace.
  • Flying in controlled CTR airspace (Brussels, Antwerp, Charleroi, Liège, Ostend) is prohibited in Open.
  • Operations over military camps (Beverlo, Elsenborn, Lagland, Kleine-Brogel) are strictly prohibited.
  • Flying over seaports, industrial chemical sites, and nuclear facilities (Doel, Tihange) is prohibited.
  • Consulting the official Droneguide platform by Skeyes is mandatory before every flight.
  • Operator registration via the BCAA (DGLV) portal is mandatory.
Commercial filming or operating outside Open rules? Filming in populated urban centers, at night, within controlled CTR airspace, or with full-frame cinema drones is strictly prohibited in Open and legally requires an EASA Specific authorization.
