For recreational and Open category drone pilots, flying in Schiphol CTR 1 and above dense urban areas in Amsterdam is strictly prohibited. Drone Department holds an official EASA Specific operational authorization and ILT permits, allowing us to execute fully compliant cinema drone shoots following coordination with Air Traffic Control the Netherlands (LVNL) via 2-way VHF radio communication.

In the Port of Rotterdam and within the Rotterdam Airport CTR, strict combined airspace and ISPS maritime security rules apply. Standard Open category flights are not permitted. Drone Department has extensive experience managing port authority clearances and CTR procedures to safely capture complex industrial and maritime cinema footage.

The Open category (A1, A2, A3) is restricted to low-risk flights with mandatory standoff distances from people and complete bans in CTRs and port security zones. The Specific category (under which Drone Department operates) is designed for complex commercial operations with full-frame 8K cinema drones (DJI Inspire 3 ProRes RAW), night operations, flights in controlled airspace (CTR), and close-proximity filming near structures and people.

We submit an operational flight plan in advance through the official LVNL / ILT portal (GoDrone Operational). On the day of shooting, our certified radiotelephony operator (RT) maintains continuous 2-way VHF radio contact with the control tower (Tower/Approach) to receive real-time clearances and coordinate instantly with manned air traffic.

Yes. Under our EASA Specific authorization, we hold approvals for night flights (outside the uniform daylight period / UDP). Our aircraft are equipped with certified green flashing anti-collision strobes, and we deploy dedicated Visual Observers for 360-degree airspace surveillance.

No, flying directly over open-air assemblies of people (crowds) is strictly prohibited across Europe under both Open and Specific categories. At festivals and public events, Drone Department films safely and legally by maintaining mandatory lateral safety buffers, using secured ground perimeters, and filming with telephoto cinema lenses (e.g. on the DJI Inspire 3). This captures dynamic atmospheric footage without ever flying directly above uninvolved spectators.

For flights in active military low-flying areas (GLV) and EHT training airspace, we coordinate directly with the Royal Netherlands Air Force (AOCS NM Nieuw Milligen) and the Military Aviation Authority (MLA). In port areas, we concurrently secure nautical ISPS clearances from the Port Authority.
