What applies to recreational pilots, hobbyists, and standard drone operators in Germany?

  • Maximum flying altitude is 120 meters AGL in uncontrolled airspace.
  • Flying within 1.5 km of aerodromes and in controlled CTR airspace is strictly prohibited in Open.
  • Operations over military training grounds (Grafenwöhr, Bergen-Hohne, Munster) are strictly prohibited.
  • Strict lateral buffer of 100 meters required from federal motorways (Autobahnen), railways, waterways, and industrial sites.
  • Flying over residential properties is strictly prohibited without explicit written permission from owners.
  • Third-party liability drone insurance is legally mandatory in Germany from 0 grams.
Commercial filming or operating outside Open rules?
